What to do when your car battery dies on the road

A dead battery is one of the most common reasons drivers get stranded — and one of the fastest to resolve. Before you do anything, move your vehicle to a safe spot if it's still rolling, switch on your hazard lights, and make sure you're clear of moving traffic. If you're on a motorway, step behind the barrier while you wait.

Once you're safe, open the Automadad app or call us and request a battery jump start. Share your location so the nearest verified provider can be matched to you, and keep an eye on the live map to see how far away help is. Most jump starts are completed on the spot in a few minutes.

“If the same battery keeps dying, a jump start is only a temporary fix — ask the technician to test it so you don't end up stranded again next week.”

A battery that repeatedly loses charge usually means it's near the end of its life, or that something (a light left on, a failing alternator) is draining it. Our technicians can test the battery on site and replace it there and then if needed, so you don't have to make a second trip to a workshop.

Keep a few basics in your car for situations like this: a phone charger, a small torch, and the Automadad number saved offline. A little preparation turns a roadside emergency into a short wait rather than a ruined day.

This is exactly what happened to me last month. Requesting help and watching the tow truck on the map made a stressful night so much easier.

Helpful guide. A section on what to keep in the car for emergencies would be a great follow-up.
