Tires
Check pressure when the tires are cold, including the spare - motorway driving in Pakistan's summer heat is hard on underinflated tires. Look at tread depth and check for cracking on the sidewalls, especially on a car that's spent most of its life doing short city trips.
Fluids and battery
Engine oil, coolant, and brake fluid levels are a five-minute check that catches most of what strands people on long drives. If the battery is more than two to three years old, or has needed a jump before, get it tested rather than hoping it holds for the trip.
Lights and wipers
Headlights, brake lights, and indicators matter more on unfamiliar highways and at night than they do on a daily city commute. Worn wiper blades are a small thing until you're driving through rain on the motorway with reduced visibility.
What to carry, just in case
A charged phone with a saved emergency contact, a warning triangle, a torch, and basic water and snacks for a delay cover most scenarios. Knowing how to request roadside assistance before you need it - not while stressed on the shoulder - saves time when it counts.
